As I ponder ways to help motivate my staff, I am constantly looking for any information I can find on the subject.   Recently, I came across some information from the Dale Carnegie “Secrets of Success” training, where they explain nine ways to enhance your work relationships.  I thought these tips were great and thought I would pass them on.

  1. Don’t criticize, condemn or complain.
  2. Give honest, sincere appreciation.
  3. Arouse in the other person an eager want.  (Ask Yourself: How will this benefit the employee?)
  4. Become genuinely interested in other people.
  5. Smile.
  6. Remember that a person’s name is the sweetest and most important sound in any language to that person.
  7. Be a good listener.  Please encourage others to talk about themselves.
  8. Talk in terms of other person’s interests.
  9. Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely.

I infer from Carnegie’s list that when you sincerely dedicate yourself to the wants, needs, aspirations, fears, etc. of your employees, the more they will dedicate themselves to you, your company (or school in this case), and their work product.
